La entrega número 84 de los premios Oscar consagró como grandes ganadoras a dos de las películas más nominadas. "El artista", la película en blanco y negro que retrata el ocaso de un actor del cine mudo frente a la aparición de las películas sonoras, además de llevarse la estatuilla como mejor película consiguió otras cuatro por Mejor Actor Protagonista (Jean Dujardin), Mejor Director (Michel Hazanavicius), Música y vestuario. "La invención de Hugo Cabret" de Martin Scorsese que había alcanzado 11 nominaciones, ganó también en 5 categorías: Fotografía, Efectos Visuales, Edición de Sonido, Mezcla de Sonido y Dirección de Arte.

Dos de las más aplaudidas fueron Meryl Streep, quien se alzó con el premio como mejor actriz por su inolvidable interpretación de Margaret Thatcher en "La dama de hierro", y Octavia Spencer, protagonista de "Historias Cruzadas" que ganó como mejor actriz de reparto. En el rubro masculino, el mejor actor de reparto ,según la Academia, fue Christopher Plumier, por su actuación en "Beginners".

El maestro Woody Allen fue reconocido por su película "Medianoche en París" con el premio al mejor guión original. "Rango", ganó en la categoría por Mejor película animada. El premio a la mejor película extranjera fue para la iraní "Una separación", que viene de ganar el Oso de Oro en Berlín y cosechar las mejores críticas entre los expertos.

El estreno en nuestro país está anunciado para Mayo de este año.
